first of all, this is all the stuff i got, which is sort of a lie. between myself and people i know, three boxes of peeps, an unknown quantity of coffee, a shoebox completely full of chocolate things, and who knows what else was eaten. if your stuff is not here, it is not because i hate you, i promise. it is either hidden or it got eaten/used before i could take the picture, which means actually it was good enough that we could not wait until today to eat or use it. click the little picture to see a big picture. |

HONORABLE MENTIONS. these are things which i thought were particularly cute, novel, smart, funny, useful, or amusing. everyone mentioned here will receive either a copy of the drew book or a hand-drawn postcard. not all of the pictures at left are of honorable mentions, i just thought they were particularly nice pictures that i took. (the accordion is mine, nobody sent me that.) 1. DREW BRAND magnetic poetry. sent by rob in australia, this has something like two hundred words with all kinds of specialized nouns and verbs like "explosion" and "australia" and things you do not see in most magnetic poetry sets. he made this himself and i imagine it took quite a while. 2. HANDMADE BUTTONS. layne took it upon herself to send six high-quality buttons. some were my drawings, some were made from pictures of my paintings, and one was of natalie's drawing of rickeydog. shown to the left is the button of rickeydog, which natalie grabbed off my desk and put on her shirt before i could say, THAT IS FOR THE CONTEST PUT IT DOWN 3. TERRIFYING STICKY EYES. hannah from new zealand sent me these, along with a windup car that looks like a sushi roll. you roll it backwards until it clicks, and then it flies across your floor. i have hardwood floors so this is great. 4. SUNFISH HOLY BREAKFAST. how did mary (off the top of my head, i apologize if that is not really your name!) know this is the one guided by voices cd i don't have? i am not sure, but now i have it, and it is awesome. 5. DISCO BALL. this is a disco ball made of broken CDs, by britta. i hung it from my smoke detector because it hangs just fine there. then light kept reflecting off of it into my eyes, so i ripped the smoke detector out of the ceiling and it is sitting on my stairs now, with the disco ball still attached, which you can see in the "all the stuff i got" picture. 6. MAPS OF FAYETTEVILLE ARKANSAS. not one, but TWO subway-sized posters of maps of this town. ONE OF THEM IS A 3-D map. i am not lying. this is amazing, they are both 5 feet x 3 feet. that is humongous. |

third place goes to GARETH who sent me this magnificent shirt that was an actual competition shirt for his soccer team. (the soccer team did not win, but he knew that you can be a winner in other areas if you try hard enough.) i love gold t-shirts, and i love hamsters, and if you put them together, you get third place!! thanks gareth! (prize: handmade drawing) |
| second place goes to GARISIMO!!! who made me a sculpture. the sculpture is a glass couch. how do you make glass into a couch? i have no idea. the entire time i was trying to take this picture, i was terrified i would drop it, and it would explode into a billion pieces, because sometimes i do things like that. but it is now safe, on my mantle. garisimo suggested that i put the couch in the refrigerator, but i have no idea why i would do this, unless there are glass creatures which live in the fridge and they want a glass couch to sit on. thanks garisimo!!! (prize: 8x10 painting) |

first place goes to the permenters (jason and lindsay) in england, who sent me this, which was the only thing i got where i was speechless for minutes afterwards. it is a fully-posable stuffed DREW figure, which is about a foot high and comes with an entire accessory set and several clothing changes. the detail and quality of this is remarkable, and you should see it. (prize: 9x12 painting) | |

i have made buttons especially for this contest! they are not offered for sale anywhere on my website yet. they are 1" in diameter, and one is a blue button with a dude in a green barrel. the other is a red button with ganesh on it. if you entered the contest, and you order a t-shirt or cd from me you will get one of each of the buttons for free! i am not planning to put these up for sale for a couple of months, so you can get them free and before everyone else. this is to say thank you for sending stuff (be it food, homemade stuff, coffee, a coffee mug with a kitten wearing a rainbow hat and rainbow socks on its ears, a knitted hat inexplicably named midge, a corn man holding a corn cob in its hand, or a nepalese lamp shade) and i hope you had a good time entering. finally, thanks to the very nice people at the post office, who put up with all 100+ of these entries going through my record label's tiny post office box, and even let me have some of those plastic post office bins, which i promise i will return the next time i come into the post office. oh, and i should mention- to take advantage of this wonderful free offer, when you check out with paypal, put "hey my name is _____ and i sent you _____" in the special instructions section (it's right before you actually send payment) and i will send the free buttons with your order!!! |
